New Stuff In My Life

My last post was in October -- so where have I been?  I guess I've just had some new stuff in my life that has taken over my card blogging/collecting time.

Stuff like what??  Well, this is new:

This is new, too:

Once I unpack all my cards in the new house AND put the baby to bed (and rock him and change the diaper)....then maybe you'll get some new posts out of me.  :-)  I've still got a "Ton of Bricks" from JBFJ to post...

The Best Part Of This Post Is The End

In the seemingly never-ending string of packages that Wes/Jaybarkerfan has been sending to my door, he hit me with another mailer.  It was full of Royals, of course, and I finally got it all entered into Zistle and scanned here.

I liked the oddballs that were part of it, and wanted to show those off here.

Baby Billy Butler.

Bubble-Blowing Brett.
Unscannable Hal.

Jimmy Dean, the Sausage King of Kansas City.

"Tetrad?"  Never heard of this.  Lucky for me, there were ONLY 45,000 of these made, so good luck ever tracking down another.  Suckers.

Finally, it's not a JBFJ package without a little intrigue.  This internal envelope was awaiting me...

Oh man!  It's probably a George Brett Rookie - GEM MINT 10 - I CAN'T BELIEVE IT I'VE WAITED SO LONG WES IS THE BEST WES IS THE BEST WELL EVEN IF IT ISN'T THAT IT'S GONNA BE A BILLY BUTLER AUTOGRAPH OR JOAKIM SORIA OR DAVID DEJESUS OR SOMETHING TRULY GREAT!!!!!!

AND THE RESULT IS.....

I just got "Grimace"-Bipped.  There was no photoshopping involved in the above picture -- I just threw them all on the scanner.  Well played, sir.  :-)

Ken Harvey was an outstanding 1B for the Royals.  See his fielding prowess below.
Yep.  He was our All-Star.  Thanks, Wes!

What You Need?

My mother-in-law gave me a Series 2 rack pack from Target for my birthday (she's pretty cool).  I snagged the Royals and a few other cards out of there, but have a bunch for trade if anyone needs these.  I scanned the ones below, and also have a stack of base up for grabs.  Between the A's/Wright/Dodgers/Braves/Indians collectors out there, I figured this would all be spoken for pretty soon.  So...if you need these, let me know in the comments what you want.

(The Snider is a die-cut...Ryu and Smith are the Target parallels.)

2013 Super Bowl Champion...

...Kelechi Osemele!

2012 Fleer Rookie Sensations - Kelechi Osemele - RS-96
Kelechi was a late 2nd-round draft pick for the Ravens in 2012 and he won a starting job on the O-Line.  He parlayed his protection of Flacco into a Super Bowl ring during his rookie season.  Not too shabby of a way to start off!  He's an Iowa State alum (obviously).

This one was a Listia purchase.  I got it for 1,700 credits...I was prepared to do at least 3,000, if necessary, so I was happy.  This seller threw in several extra cards for me in my package, so if you are looking for autos/relics...check him out.

Alex Gordon - Bowman Heritage

The last month has been a blur.  Working, parenting, living, traveling, celebrating, surviving.  We're still shopping for a house - hoping to get moved before the new baby comes at Thanksgiving, but that is looking less likely with each passing day.  The card packages are piling up (including good ones from Junior Junkie and JaybarkerFan's Junk).  Not everything will get the publicity it deserves due to the time constraints, but please know that I appreciate everything that has been sent my way and will try to honor it, even if it is a quick post.

In response to some stuff I sent him, Kerry at Cards on Cards sent me a great package (in July) that I finally got entered into Zistle.  It was chock-full of goodies, but the crowning piece was this card that was on the end.

That is an on-card Alex Gordon auto from 2006 Bowman Heritage (SG-AG).  It is my first Alex Gordon auto, and quite a beauty!  Thank you so much, Kerry.

I'm Gonna Moon Ya

....well.  There you go.  You've been mooned.

These are all from my first, and only, pack of  Allen and Ginter for the year.  I buy one pack each year to quench the pack-busting thirst.  I was at a card shop with my nephew and brother-in-law down in Orange County last Saturday and grabbed a hobby pack. My goals for the pack were one interesting insert and one Royals player.  I got a great "MOON" card, and that will go into the oddball keepers collection.

The first card I pulled out of the pack was this guy.
2013 Allen and Ginter - Alex Gordon - #61
Mission:  Accomplished.

The other two interesting pickups were Bob Lemon (SP), and a Denard Span mini (regular back).  Both of these are for trade if someone needs them.
2013 Allen and Ginter - Bob Lemon SP - #311

2013 Allen and Ginter - Denard Span - Mini - #268
The rest of the cards were base cards....Ben Revere (#14), Vida Blue (#146), A.J. Burnett (#199), and Robinson Cano (#242) -- also for trade.

I'm very satisfied with this pack.  I think I will relax a little bit...have some dessert, maybe a moon pie or a Luna bar, close my eyes, and go to my very own sea of tranquility.

Blaise Bryant

This is my man, Blaise Bryant.  When my Dad took me to Iowa State games a a youth, he was the stud RB.  Didn't have much of an NFL career...played in Canada for awhile.

But you wanna know why I really love him?

THE HAIR!!!!  Oh, the hair.  Such a thing of beauty.  Exploding from his scalp like a Saturn V rocket.  I hope he still has it cut that way today...

NOPE.

I guess when you are a real estate broker / financier, you can't go around looking like Kid 'N Play.*  At least he's still got that "head to the left" tilt.

(*In case you didn't get the reference.....)

Who's got the best hair ever on a sports card???

Kyle Drabek - Triple Threads

Hey all,

I gotta give a shout out to NAPKIN DOON (if that is your real name)....for running his Big Fun Game again this year.  I ended up with this sweet Kyle Drabek Triple Threads auto #'d / 50.  I really like it, and will probably keep it but would be willing to trade it if any of you had any good Royals auto-relics for trade.  The auto is on-card -- the swatches are three different white ones with really fine patterns that don't scan too well.

2011 Topps Triple  Threads Triple Relic - Kyle Drabek

Napkin also tossed in a wax pack of 1990 Topps.  Yes, it had the gum.  No, I did not eat the moldy gum.  What can come from a pack from the teeth of the overproduction era?  How about 3 Hall-of-Famers!

1990 Topps

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.  And I do say so myself.

Thanks again, Mr. Doon!

Extreme Posting Delays - TTG Edition

TTG from "Friars on Cardboard" has been very good to me in the past

He's been good to me again...with these guys showing up in my mailbox on....May 1st.  So...I'm a little delayed, no biggie.  I'll just pop over to the FoC blog to leave a comment and let him know I'm really appreciate it.

Blog not found???

You know it's been awhile since you posted when a blog shuts down in between the time you get the cards and when you post them.  It looks like he's doing all his posting at gaslampball.com now.  I know "Gas Lamp" is the SD district, but I like to picture the Padres playing all their games with flaming spheres of gas that explode upon being hit.  You'd get a lot fewer Home-Runs that way....but the opposing infielders would all be really scared.

But I digress...here's the oddballs he sent me!

I've seen the "Rub Downs" before, but the "Pro Stamps" were completely new to me.  Thanks again, sir!

Bombs Away - The Grand Finale

Due to work, life, health, etc....I've been slow posting lately, so I figured I would just dump the rest of the pics from Jaybarkerfan's ridiculous PWE Bombing of me.  It's kind of like at the end of the fireworks show when they just shoot off everything that is left....

Commons Giveaway

This was the picture for the lot I just gave away on Craigslist.  I think it was probably about 7k baseball cards and 4k football.  This was the result of lots and lots of sorting everything that I've bought at garage sales and from craigslist myself.  All my keepers and traders are still tucked away in my closet, but these were just taking up space.

They went to a guy who coaches youth baseball and has two sons of his own that are starting to collect.  They were happy to get them and I was happy to be rid of them.  :-)

What's the largest # of cards you have ever gotten rid of in one shot?  How did you do it -- sell/give?
